BJP worker attacked allegedly for his social media posts

A BJP worker was allegedly assaulted over his posts on social media criticising the Congress MLA in Bhadravathi town on Sunday night. Gokul Krishna, who suffered injuries, is undergoing treatment at McGann Hospital in Shivamogga.

Krishna, who has identified with the Bhadravathi taluk unit of the BJP, has alleged that Kumar, Jayaram Mani, Basavaraj, and a few others assaulted him when he went out to get food from a hotel around 8.30 p.m. on Sunday. Congress workers targeted him for his posts criticizing Congress MLA B.K. Sangameshwara and his family members, he said.

Earlier on December 9, unknown people damaged his car parked near his house. A case was registered in that connection at New Town Station in Bhadravathi. Based on the complaint, the police arrested Ganesh, 22, Harsha, 23, and Nanje Gowda, 22, on Sunday. Old Town Police registered one more case on Monday, following the attack.

Shivamogga SP G.K. Mithun Kumar, on Monday, told the media that the police had registered the case based on the statement of Gokul Krishna. The police would take up the investigation.

Meanwhile, leaders of the BJP in Shivamogga condemned the incident and demanded action against the accused involved in the incidents. T.D. Megharaj, District BJP president, during a protest in Shivamogga, alleged that the BJP worker was attacked for his comments against the Congress.
