A 34-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi Police for his alleged involvement in multiple criminal cases, including assault on police teams, robbery, extortion and Excise Act, among others. According to the police, the accused is a member of Salman Tyagi-Saddam Gauri gang, which has a close association with gangster Neeraj Bawana.
The arrested man, identified as Rohit, is a resident of Tilak Nagar area in the national capital. One semi-automatic pistol of .32 bore with three live cartridges was recovered from his possession.
Rohit was reportedly involved in at least seven criminal cases earlier as well and was wanted in a case related to the MCOC Act in Delhi’s Hari Nagar area, informed police.
“Rohit was wanted and had been absconding for a long time,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said, adding, that a non-bailable warrant was also issued against him on November 18 by Tis Hazari Court.
“We had information that Rohit was trying to revive the gang by collecting funds at the behest of Salman Tyagi and Saddam Gaur,” Kumar said.
The DCP further informed that his team led by Inspector Karamvir Singh and ACP Ved Prakash received information about the movements of Rohit in the West Delhi area. “Accordingly, teams were deployed to track him as he was frequently changing his hideouts in Delhi and UP to evade arrest,” DCP (Special Cell) Alok Kumar added.
“However, following technical surveillance, we got specific location of the suspect near Dargah Chaukhandi in Tilak Nagar, Delhi. A team raided the area and Rohit was intercepted. He was asked to stop and surrender by the police team, but he tried to escape. Seeing this, the police teams swung into action and Rohit was arrested,” the officer said.
