Useful hacks come in handy considering they can save copious amounts of effort, time and even money. Since everyone is always looking for hacks in the kitchen and even for our furniture and clothes, we got you this from blogger Deepti Kapoor who shared a hack of how to remove tea stains from white and coloured clothes.

“Take white vinegar or lemon juice, leave for 10 minutes and wash off with normal detergent,” shared Kapoor.

She also added that for coloured clothes, one can dilute the vinegar a bit with water. “It will be better,” said Kapoor.

Does it work?

Dr Santosh Pandey, acupuncturist and naturopath, Rejua Energy Center, Mumbai shared how to use lemon or vinegar to remove the stains. “Both lemon and vinegar contain natural acids that can help break down the tea stain. Always check garment care labels and test in an inconspicuous area first to avoid any potential damage,” said Dr Pandey.

Clinical dietitian Garima Goyal mentioned vinegar and lemon juice offer a range of benefits, from being gentle on fabrics and safe for colours to providing a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative for stain removal and household cleaning. “Their versatility makes them valuable additions to a sustainable and effective cleaning routine,” said Goyal.

What more?

Vinegar is known for its natural deodorising properties. “When used to tackle tea stains, it can help neutralise and eliminate any unpleasant odours associated with the stain. Lemon juice, with its fresh citrus scent, contributes to a pleasant aroma during and after the cleaning process,” said Goyal.

Additionally, vinegar and lemon juice are budget-friendly alternatives. “They are often staples in households, offering an economical solution for routine cleaning tasks, including stain removal,” said Goyal.

Dr Pandey listed both the methods

Lemon method

*Squeeze fresh lemon juice onto the stain.
*Gently rub the stained area or use an old toothbrush to work the juice into the fabric.
*Let it sit in the sun for a natural bleaching effect.
*Wash the garment as usual.

Vinegar Method

*Mix equal parts white vinegar and water.
*Apply the solution to the tea stain.
*Allow it to sit for 15-30 minutes.
*Rinse the area with cold water.
*Wash the garment according to care instructions.
