The accident happened when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge on the Srinagar-Leh highway near Zojila Pass
A tourist vehicle passing through Ladakh’s Zoji La Pass on Tuesday met with an accident, leaving five people including the driver dead while three others sustained injuries.
The vehicle included eight passengers from Kerala– Rajaesh Krishnai, Arun Karuposomi, Anil Rajinder, Rahul Krishna, Vignash Shewam, and Manooj Mahadev– and a driver identified as, Aijaz Ahmed Awan.
The accident happened when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on the Srinagar-Leh highway near Zoji La Pass.
Locals along with Sonamarg police carried out the rescue operation. They were moved to Sonamarg’s Primary Health Center (PHC) from where they were referred to SKIMS Soura for specialised treatment.
A similar accident happened in May when two vehicles skidded off the road and rolled down after an avalanche hit them on Zoji La Pass. The incident took place near Panimatha Captain Mode at Zojil Pass. Rescue teams immediately reached the spot to help the stranded tourists.
