A video of a man kneeling on the ground being kicked and thrashed by another man has been gathering a lot of traction on social media. An X user named Izlamic Terrorist (@raviagrawal3) shared the video with the claim that “a Pakistani Muslim was offering namaz in a restaurant in China. Suddenly the restaurant owner came from behind and started kicking the Muslim.”

Earlier, the video was shared with the claim that the man was assaulted as prayers and religious practices were not allowed in public places in China.

Twitter user @ajaychauhan41, who has often been caught spreading misinformation, shared the video in June 2023 with the caption, “Uighur Muslim brutally thrashed by a man from another community while offering prayers in a public place in China.” (Archived link)

Abhishek Kushwaha also made the same claim while tweeting the video. (Archived link)

A number of other users also shared the viral clip with a similar claim.

Fact Check

Alt News performed a reverse image search using some frames taken from the viral video on Google and Yandex search engines. This led us to an article by Daily News Thailand covering the thrashing. It states that the incident is from 2020 when an employee of a loan company in Thailand was accused of misappropriation of customers’ money and was assaulted by a senior employee of the company.

We also found a news report covering the viral video on the website of Thai newspaper Khaosod. This article also mentions the same incident about the employee of a loan company in Thailand. It also states that police took action in the case and arrested the accused.

To sum it up, a video of a Thai loan company employee being thrashed was circulated online with the false claim that a Uighur Muslim was brutally thrashed by a man from another community for offering prayers at a public place in China.
