Renowned Tamil actor and founder of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Vijayakanth, fondly known as Captain, has successfully recovered from his recent health setback and has been discharged from MIOT Hospital, where he was admitted earlier this month. The 71-year-old had been undergoing treatment for severe cold and cough symptoms.
In a statement released by MIOT Hospital, it was confirmed that Vijayakanth has recovered completely and returned home. “Mr. Vijayakanth, who had been undergoing treatment at MIOT hospital, has recovered completely and returned home,” read the official statement, which has gone viral on social media.
On November 30, a statement from the hospital read, “While there has been an overall improvement in Vijayakanth’s condition, in the last 24 hours, his health is not stable, and he needs help with pulmonary treatment. We hope he gets well soon. So, he needs another 14-day hospitalization to get recovered.” The statement saddened many of his fans and party cadres. However, now, after the brief critical period, the actor has fully recovered.
‘Captain’ Vijayakanth’s health has been a concern since the past few years. He has not been part of political activities lately. His wife, Premalatha, has been taking care of the party’s work.
Vijayakanth became an important figure in Tamil Nadu politics, securing an MLA seat with an 8 percent vote share in the 2006 Assembly elections. He later became the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Due to his health, his party also suffered and has lost its power in the state.
Many actors and leaders, including Kamal Haasan, earlier expressed their concern over the actor-politican’s health and wished him a speedy recovery. Now, his return home is a welcome development for those who had been anxiously awaiting news about his health.
