The city of Chennai has witnessed flooding due to heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Michaung on Monday, disrupting normal lives. Even though the rains have stopped, most parts of the city are still under water.

Meanwhile, Australian opener David Warner, who was a part of the team that won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 by beating India in the final, took to Instagram to post a heartfelt note for those affected by the flood.

The 37-year-old, who has a massive fan following in India and regularly plays in the IPL, also expressed his concern over the natural disaster and requested people to consider supporting relief efforts.

“I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing floods affecting many areas in Chennai. My thoughts are with all those who are impacted by this natural disaster. It’s important for everyone to stay safe, and seek higher ground if necessary. If you’re in a position to help, please consider supporting relief efforts or offering assistance to those in need. Let’s come together to support where we can,” Warner wrote on Instagram sharing visuals of waterlogged streets and road collapses in Chennai.

“You are better than our media,” a user commented. “Give this man a Indian citizenship man!!!!” said another. “Thanks a lot for the post mate, it means a lot to us,” wrote a third. “This is the reason why Indian fans love you even though you won the trophy against us. You’re a true human, bro,” posted another netizen.

More than 18,000 people have been displaced and moved to relief camps around Chennai, said officials. The floods were triggered by Cyclone Michaung, which began its landing process between Nellore and Kavali in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon.
