The disruption caused by the derailment of a goods train in Thal Ghat on Sunday continued to affect commuters on its second day. According to the Central Railway Mumbai division, the derailment occurred at 6:30 pm on Sunday and was resolved by around 9:04 am Monday morning. However, the aftermath led to 17 long-distance trains being diverted and 10 others cancelled. Numerous express and mail trains, such as Gitanjali Express, experienced delays of approximately two to three hours.
To manage the situation during the night, four Down (DN) mail express trains were rerouted via the middle line from Kasara to Igatpuri. Once services were restored, the initial DN mail express train, DN 12859 CSTM-Howrah Gitanjali Express, resumed its route via the proper DN mainline at 9:04 am. Subsequently, the second DN train, 12165 LTT-Gorakhpur Express, followed its scheduled path through Kasara via the DN Main Line at 9:26 am.
Although the DN Mainline restoration was completed, suburban train services also experienced delays of 15-20 minutes due to the derailment, as per a CR official on Monday.
The cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, and an inquiry has been initiated, as confirmed by the Chief Public Relations official (CPRO) of CR, Dr. Shivraj Manaspure.
Simultaneously, on the Western Railway suburban section, a signal failure at Borivali UP/Down fast line occurred at 11:02 am, resulting in delays of 20-25 minutes for trains. Normalcy was restored when the signal issue was resolved by 11:35 am.
