The Maharashtra government Monday appointed 1994 batch IPS officer Ashutosh Dumbre as the Thane Police Commissioner, replacing incumbent Jaijeet Singh who was posted as Director General (DG), Anti Corruption Bureau, a post that had been vacant for more than a year.

Singh, a 1990 batch IPS officer, was appointed as Thane Police Commissioner in May 2021 and had completed his tenure in May this year, when he was promoted and retained at the same post. In the past, he had served in various capacities including chief of Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS).

Dumbre, who was the State Intelligence Department (SID) chief, had previously served in Thane in various capacities including that of Joint Commissioner. He had also served as Mumbai’s joint commissioner of crime branch and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on different occasions.

A government official said that since Singh had completed his tenure earlier this year, his transfer was on the cards, especially after he was promoted to DG rank but kept in the same post.

It is believed that CM Eknath Shinde has a say when it comes to postings in Thane, while when it comes to Mumbai city, it is mainly the deputy CM and state Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis who decides on postings of senior officers.
