After Mohan Yadav, the MLA from Ujjain South, secured the position of the leader of the state legislative party in a meeting held on Monday, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the incumbent Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, submitted his resignation to Governor Mangubhai Patel.
Following the conclusion of the meeting with the newly-elected MLAs, Chouhan reached Raj Bhavan to tender his resignation. The CM-designate Mohan Yadav subsequently met the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Bhopal to stake his claim to form the government.
Chouhan completed four terms as the CM of the state where the BJP registered a thumping victory in the assembly elections last week.
Mohan Yadav, a 58-year-old OBC leader, was elected as the BJP’s legislature party leader in Madhya Pradesh at a meeting in Bhopal held in the evening in presence of central observers, the BJP said.

A member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Ujjain for three terms, Yadav served as the education minister in the previous government under Chouhan.
According to the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha website, Yadav holds a degree in law and has an MBA and a PhD.
He started his career with the ABVP In Ujjain, serving different posts and rising up the ranks of the student organisation. He was the chief of the Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation from 2011-13. He began his political career in 2013 when he was first elected as an MLA. He was re-elected in the 2018 assembly elections.
He was awarded by the President of India in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 for promoting tourism in Madhya Pradesh.
“This is for new energy, new hope, new development. In the new India, Modiji is working for, Madhya Pradesh will lead as a model. The state under new leadership will fulfil his dreams,” BJP general secretary and party MLA Kailash Vijayvargiya told The Indian Express.
“We are very happy with this decision. He comes from the OBC background. This is a moment of pride; he is connected to the ground. We all come from Ujjain and are extremely hopeful he will take the state to new heights,” MLA Govind Singh Rajput said.
