IntelliSmart gets orders for 46 lakh smart power meters from Gujarat | Ahmedabad News

IntelliSmart, India’s leading smart metering and digital solutions provider, has received the Letter of Award (LoA) for 46 lakh prepaid smart meters meant for the entire Surat and Baroda districts in Gujarat.

Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) has placed the orders for 28.30 lakh energy meters and Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) for 17.70 lakh meters under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

According to the Ministry of Power, smart meters are new generation devices that allow one to learn about the electricity consumption pattern and help utilities conduct system monitoring and customer billing without manual intervention.

The prepaid function in a smart meter operates similar to a prepaid mobile. The benefits of prepaid smart meters are that they can digitally send your electricity reading to the utility, electricity consumption can be tracked using a mobile application, and recharge your electricity account in advance. It also helps the utilities improve their power supply.

The other states that have entered into a pact with IntelliSmart for smart meters are Uttar Pradesh and Assam.

As per a statement from the company, Uttar Pradesh government has also awarded IntelliSmart a project to install 67 lakh smart meters by state discom Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) making it the largest smart meter project by volume.

In Assam, the company has won the LoA for 15 lakh smart meters, secured through competitive bidding, from Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. With these projects, IntelliSmart has built a portfolio of Rs 20,000 crore, one of the largest under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.

Mr Anil Rawal, IntelliSmart MD and CEO, said that the company’s leading power sector digitalisation programmes across the globe and shall go a long way not only to improve the financial and operational health of the distribution companies but would also be critical for the success of large-scale renewables and e-mobility in the grid. “The successful implementation of our smart metering projects, shall certainly support the country in realising the Net Zero commitments and shall also support the energy transition endeavour,” Rawal said.

The digital solutions provider is a joint venture of the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
