Ho jida intezaar si
Ajj rabba ohi din aaya ae
Ho jida intezaar si
Ajj rabba ohi din aaya ae’
Sitting in the theatre, watching a lengthy violent sequence, you listen to this music piece, which sounds familiar but not optimal for the trajectory of the crime; your brain inadvertently tries to trace the original song that had struck a chord long before the movie came into existence.
It is not a comfortable position. Something seems amiss and you later discover what!
Running successfully in cinemas, Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ is a hit in less than a week of its release for all the right and the wrong reasons. However, B Praak’s song ‘Saari Duniya Jalaa Denge’, hasn’t gone well with music lovers who feel the singer has killed the innocence and soulful melody of the original classic song ‘Tum Rooth Ke Mat Jana’, sung by singers Asha Bhosle and Mohammad Rafi in the 1958 movie ‘Phagun’.
‘Tum ruth ke mat jaana
Tum ruth ke mat jaana
Mujhse kya shikava
Diwana hai diwana
Mujhse kya shikava
Diwana hai diwana’
From a song where a man insists on his lover’s affection, convincing her to stay, there is a paradigm shift in the scene in the new version where brothers are shedding each other’s blood. Despite the change in scenario, tone, and emotions and the obvious need for a remix here, B Praak’s voice gives a bad taste too. It could not justify the amazing work of the veteran artists of the golden times. It lacks depth; it lacks ground when a comparison is made.
In November, B Praak received a lot of criticism for recreating a famous song ‘Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aayee’ from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1995). The song’s new version was released to mark the 25th anniversary of the film but it faced a huge backlash. Music enthusiasts trolled the singer for ruining their childhood memories with his shrill high-pitched voice.
Not only this, B Praak is infamous for ‘murdering’ many other iconic songs, which listeners of different generations hold close to their hearts. His song ‘Sach Keh Raha Hai Deewana’ in 2022 was a major turn-off for the fans of the film ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ (2001) featuring R Madhavan and Dia Mirza.
In 2020, the singer released ‘Koi Fariyaad’ where he attempted to add his charm with singing and style but failed miserably. The listeners could not accept such a remake of Jagjit Singh’s timeless classic.
In the list of his ugly remakes, B Praak tried to come up with new renditions of Sonu Nigam’s successful songs such as ‘Achha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyar Ka’ and ‘Ye Dhokhe Pyar Ke Dhokhe’ from the film ‘Bewafa Sanam’ released in 1995. However, the netizens were outraged by it and said “Praak cannot beat Sonu sir”.
B Praak is undoubtedly a maestro who has delivered wonderful music which will stay with his fans for times immemorial. It is these remakes of classics that create disgust and displeasure and he should seriously reconsider his grades going low before saying “yes” to another remix in the future.
