Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled the statue of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg.

He also attended a traditional event marking the Navy Day 2023 celebrations at Sindhudurg and witnessed the operational demonstrations by Indian Navy ships, submarines, aircraft and special forces from the Tarkarli beach.

Everyear, Navy Day celebrations at Sindhudurg pays homage to the rich maritime heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose seal inspired the new naval ensign adopted last year.

These operational demonstrations allow the people to witness the various facets of multi-domain operations undertaken by the Indian Navy.

It highlights the Navy’s contributions to national security, heralding maritime consciousness amongst citizens, according to an earlier statement.

PM Narendra Modi also extended greetings on Navy Day, saying the commitment of navy personnel in safeguarding India’s seas is a testament to their unwavering dedication to duty and love for the nation.

He also said he looks forward to joining the Navy Day programme at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra later on Monday. “This place has a close association with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, whose efforts to build a strong navy are well known,” PM posted on microblogging site, X.

He said the spirit and resolve of navy personnel remains unshakable in every circumstance. “We are forever grateful for their service and sacrifices,” said prime minister.
