Mahua Moitra Moves SC Against Lok Sabha Expulsion Over ‘Cash For Query’ Case

Trinamool Congress MP, who has now been expelled from Lok Sabha in cash-for-query case has moved the Supreme Court against the recommendations of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee. In her petition, Moitra contested that the Ethics Committee’s recommendation against her and the subsequent passing of the resolution by the Lok Sabha was wrong.

Moitra was expelled from Parliament on Friday in connection with the cash-for-query case, following a parliamentary vote.

The decision to oust her came after the Ethics Committee recommended her expulsion as a Member of Parliament, citing “immoral and indecent conduct.”

It was alleged by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey that Moitra shared her Parliamentary login details with businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament in return of favours in cash and kind.

The TMC leader has already filed a defamation suit against Dubey in Delhi Hogh Court alleging false and defamatory accusations against her in connection with the cash-for-query row.

She moved the court against Dubey, advocate Jai Dehadrai, 15 media organisations and three social media intermediaries in what she said were false and defamatory accusations against her.

She filed the defamation case after issuing a legal notice to the parties vehemently denying any wrongdoing.

“By way of background, it is stated that Defendant No. 2 (Dehadrai) was a close friend of the Plaintiff and recently, the cessation of this friendship soon took an acrimonious turn. Defendant No. 2 resorted to sending vile, threatening, vulgar messages to the Plaintiff and also trespassed into Plaintiff’s official residence and stole some personal possessions of the Plaintiff,” Moitra’s plea read, according to an IANS report.

She had also filed two police complaints dated March 24 and September 23 against Dehadrai and the same were later withdrawn by her on account of settlement talks, the report added.
