Meenakshi Lekhi’s response came after a document about a reply to a Parliament question available on the Lok Sabha website surfaced on the internet

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi on Friday refused reports that she had signed a document related to the declaration of the Palestinian group Hamas as a terrorist organisation in India.

Lekhi’s response came after a document about a reply to a Parliament question available on the Lok Sabha website surfaced on the internet.

The said document, titled “Declaration of Hamas as Terrorist Organisation”, was put up by Congress MP Kumbakudi Sudhakaran asking whether the Central government has any proposal to declare Hamas as a terrorist organisation in India and if Israel has raised any such demand before India.

“I have not signed any paper with this question and this answer,” Lekhi said in an X(formerly Twitter) post.

“Inquiry will reveal the culprit,” Lekhi further said.

In response to Lekhi’s post, Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi said if the BJP leader is claiming it is a forged response, “it is a serious breach and violation of the rules that prevail. Would be grateful for a clarification from @MEAIndia”.

“Asking questions that were submitted through someone else led to the expulsion of an MP yesterday, today a minister denies that reply to a PQ (Parliament Question) was approved by her, shouldn’t that be investigated too? Shouldn’t it lead to seeking accountability, however innocuous the response from the Ministry of External Affairs,” Chaturvedi said.
