With the festive mood taking hold of Bengaluru as Christmas and the New Year approach, December also has something for the music lovers of the city with some of the most iconic rock and roll acts from India and around the world set to perform in the Karnataka capital over the next couple of weeks.

First on the list is triple-Grammy awardee guitarist Steve Vai, who is set to perform at Phoenix Market City in Whitefield at 4 pm this Friday. This comes as part of his Inviolate Tour, promoting the album of the same name. Vai will be moving on to Kolkata on Saturday before the tour exits India.

Further into the month, a whole host of bands will be playing on December 16 and 17 at the Bandland event. Lovers of classic rock and roll and older music fans are in for a particular treat, as the event will be graced by rock legend Deep Purple. The band will be opening on the second day of the event. The Goo Goo Dolls will also be present, providing a touch of punk-flavoured ’90s nostalgia at the show opening on December 16.

The Goo Goo Dolls will be followed on the 16th by American indie rock group The War on Drugs. The Indian groups playing with them include The Earth Below and Parvaaz, as well as Chennai rock veterans Skrat. Locals will be represented by the Bengaluru-based band Thermal and a Quarter.

Deep Purple’s performance on December 17 will be alongside a lineup that commences with a mainstay of the Indian and Asian rock scene – Parikrama, followed by Australian punk act Amyl and the Sniffers. Also performing on the day will be the F16s, aswekeepsearching, and Pacifist.
