The weapon of Parashuram, the great warrior cum sage, mentioned in the Mahabharata was said to possess a similar axe, known as Parashu. The sixth avatar of Vishnu, Parashurama possesses the weapon known as Vidyudabhi, which was bestowed upon him by Lord Shiva, who also taught its mastery.

Coming back to Kantara: Chapter 1, it has been established that the story takes place between 345 and 540 CE, during the Kadamba dynasty’s dominion over the modern-day Uttar Kannada area of Karnataka.
