Rev. Malcolm Seqeira new bishop of Amravati | Pune News

Father Malcolm Sequeira has been appointed as the bishop of the Diocese of Amravati. He is presently the Vicar General of Poona Diocese and the parish priest at St. Anne’s Church, Solapur Bazar-Pune. He will take charge as bishop of Amravati on January 25, 2024.

The appointment was made by Pope Francis on November 30 this year. Speaking with The Indian Express, Father Malcolm said he looks forward to the new posting and would work towards the welfare of the society.

After his schooling and graduation, Father Malcolm joined the St. Pius X Seminary in Goregaon, Mumbai where he completed his philosophical and theological studies and was ordained as a priest on April 13, 1996 for the diocese of Poona. He finished his Licentiate in Social Communication through the famous Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.

In his initial years as a young priest, it was noticed by his superiors that he was a much gifted and talented priest, also good in interior designing. He was instrumental in renovating and beautifying the 160-year-old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Pune, which has become the hallmark of Christian churches in Pune.

Over the years, he has had an enriching experience in his pastoral ministries in various parishes in and around Pune city. As the Rector of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, he made his mark as a true pastor after the heart of Christ the Good Shepherd. Bishop-elect Rev. Malcolm is a ‘man for all seasons’. He has been multi-tasking in various capacities. Besides being parish priest and Vicar General, he has been the Editor of the monthly ‘Diocesan Life,’ the PRO of the diocese, Trustee and Director of the Poona Diocesan Corporation Pvt. Ltd.

Fr. Malcolm has proved to be an excellent administrator and good in organising meetings and various programmes both, within and outside the diocese, an official statement issued on Thursday said. Rt. Rev. John Rodrigues, the bishop of Poona, congratulated Father Malcolm on the appointment.
