Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, President of the right-wing group Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jaipur on Tuesday, police said. The incident took place in the Shyam Nagar area this afternoon, he was soon rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra, “Four people entered a house where Gogamedi was present and opened fire at him.” One of Gogamedi’s security personnel and another person were also injured in the firing.

Who was Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi?

Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was a member and president of Lokendra Singh Kalvi’s Shri Rajput Karni Sena. Sukhdev was a native of Jaipur, Rajasthan and belonged to a Shekhawat Rajput family.

His Karni Sena group spearheaded the movement against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmaavat’ alleging that the film portrayed Rajputs and queen Padmavati in a bad light.

Gogamedi formed Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena after he was expelled from Sri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 over differences with its founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi.

His outfit Gogamedi Karni Sena, which is different from the Rajput Karni Sena came into existence in 2015 due to its protests in Rajasthan after the Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Padmaavat’ and gangster Anandpal encounter case.

Many of his videos and warnings regarding these incidents had also gone viral at the time.

Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Claims Responsibility for Sukhdev’s Murder

Rohit Godara Kapurisar, a member of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang claimed responsibility for the murder of Gogamedi. Rohit confirmed that he was behind the killing through a Facebook post.

“Three men went to Gogamedi’s house and told his security guards that they wanted to meet him. The guards took them inside and the men talked to Gogamedi for 10 minutes before opening fire at him,” Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George said.

While one of the assailants, who was identified as Naveen Singh Shekhawat, died in the exchange of fire, the remaining two managed to flee on a scooty they snatched from a person outside Gogamedi’s house, he said.
